Tough Night

tooth fairy sneaks into The Boy's room.
finds the tooth.
replaces tooth with coinage.
drops tooth in a pile of legos.
curses.
leaves the room to look for a flashlight.
curses.
finds the flashlight.
sneaks back into the room.
silently sifts through the legos.
repeatedly.
for a while.
finds the tooth.
breathes a sigh of relief.
sneaks out.

A Taste of Sunday

Miss Mae is eight today.  Yikes!

Anyway, she's having a ballerina birthday party on Sunday, and I'm making tutus.

Rainbow Glitter Tutu

I'm never gonna get the glitter off my floor.
or out of my hair.

Summertime Mini-Quilt Swap

As part of the Fussy Cut Love Bee I'm in, some of us elected to be part of a mini-quilt swap.  We each sent out a piece of summer themed fabric to the other players and then we have to use all that fabric in a mini-quilt for a suprise partner.  Here's the fabric I recieved:

Summertime Mini Swap!

I added some solid white to the mix and reduced one of my favorite block patterns.
No pictures yet, I want to make sure the organizer isn't the one who's going to recieve my quilt.
(Then it wouldn't be a surpise, would it?)

April's Quilting Commitments

It was Dianah's month.  She asked for a specific block.  I think they turned out nice.  Crisp and clean looking.

Krista wanted an inprov block with the birds as fussy cuts.  Since the prints were so busy I opted to frame the fussy cuts to help pull attention to them.  I love how it turned out.

April is my month, so I sent out these fabrics and these were my guidelines:
Guidelines:
~I would like two 12 ½” unfinished blocks.
~Frame the block with one of the two fat-eighth Christmas prints.
~You must use the white somewhere.
~You don’t need to use every print.
~You may add your own fabric.
~Other than that, you can do what ever you'd like. :)

We'll see what I end up with!

My partner this month was Virginia.  She asked for this log cabin in red, white and blue.  I finished it pretty early in the month, but I admit it is still sitting here waiting to be sent home.  Before Friday, I promise!

She sent me this wonderful block

And last but certainly not least, the block lotto

I was only able to make two blocks, but they're good'uns.

A week.

I cannot begin to describe the month I've had. Just a taste -

The month began with a production week. A new Ballet to costume.
Granted, I wasn't building anything this time, just fixing and quick changes.
Mr. Chaos works for the Company too, so we spent a chaotic week shuffling the kids around and ignoring the house.

Now this is normal.
We spend the next week doing laundry and finding the kitchen counters.

Not this time.
This time Mr. Chaos left mid-week with the Company on a multi-city tour. The house was a pit, the kids were kids, and I wasn't sleeping well (I don't when he's gone.) By Thursday I was running on Oreos and coffee. At about 6:30 that evening, these arrived.

He is truly an amazing man. :)

The week got better from that point. Friday was a no-school Friday, and I only had all the kids - 7, 6, 5, 4, and the 3 month-old twins - until noonish.

Once the extras went home we all went outside and played in the dirt.

My first rose was blooming!  It's Joseph's Coat and he is always the first in bloom.

I moved a couple of roses. Wise Portia and Fisherman's Friend.  They hadn't been doing well where they were.

Not much to see now, but hopefully in a month or two they'll take off.

The kids were each given the opportunity to pick out any plant from the local garden center. I assumed they'd pick flowers - you know - pansies and marigolds.

Nope.

Miss Mae picked an artichoke. An artichoke??

Muffin picked through an entire flat of strawberry starts to find one that already had a berry on it.

And The Boy?? He picked a zucchini.
because he wants me to make zucchini cookies.

Days like these make it all better.

Crazy Weekend

We spent the weekend at the coast.  The kids were part of a dear friend's wedding party.  Only insane people plan an outdoor wedding on the Oregon Coast.  In April.  We had rain, sleet, wind and hail.  We also had a heated tent, great friends and champagne.

(Back row: Me, Mr. Chaos.  Front:  The Boy, Muffin & Miss Mae)

We clean up pretty nicely!  This was the first time in I don't know how long that I "did" my hair and put on make-up.

I'm counting this as my Design Wall Monday post because my projects for the week were The Boy's vest and tie, and altering Muffin's dress.  Have you ever sewn a tie?  I don't recommend it.  The pattern is super easy, but slippery fabric makes it a bit more difficult.  I finished the vest and tie literally minutes before we had to leave, so I didn't take any "in progress" pictures.

I haven't a clue how to tie a tie, and Mr. Chaos was busy setting up the sound system, so The Boy got a tie tying lesson from a friend.  Then they helped their Daddy with a sound check.

Muffin completely charmed every male in the area.  I foresee broken hearts in her wake when she gets older.

I was completely impressed that they mananged to stay clean and well behaved for the length of the ceremony.  They weren't perfect, but they were quietly impatient.  Miss Mae got to hold the bride's bouquet at one point during the ceremony and could resisist showing her sister.

All in all a wonderful weekend, but I'm looking forward to a week of normal.
